Friday's Class
Is there going to be a substitute or is it canceled?
Mr. Maxwell said in class today that there will be no class on Friday. Read 1984 up to page 120 (he made the reading shorter). Make sure to use split page journal entries. Make two columns, on the right put a quote with page numbers and on the left put your interpretation or explanation of the quote.
Here is an example that we did in class: p.1 Spring-------Love? Revolution?
Keep this in mind while reading: there is a lot of abstract vs. concrete. Ambiguous- multiple possible meanings. Image- illustrates the setting, puts you there physically. Something that is repeated a lot might be a theme.
Other things to think about while reading: Is Orwell a prophet or a predictor? How is our world the same or different than Winston's?
Take a look at the Essay 3 Assignment.
I'm sure this is more than you expected for a simple question, but this is the hw so I thought you'd like to know it too. I hope this is helpful, have a nice spring break.
